CAS No. 75-36-5
Alias: chloroacetyl; chloro() acetyl
Molecular formula C2H3ClO; CH3CClO
Relative molecular mass: 78.50
Structural formula:
1. Performance and Uses: Acetyl chloride is used in the manufacture of organic compounds, dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is an important acetylating reagent, and its acylation ability is stronger than that of acetic anhydride. Acetyl chloride is also a catalyst for the chlorination of carboxylic acids, and can also be used for quantitative analysis of hydroxyl or amino groups.

3. Packaging and storage
Acetyl chloride should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃. Packaging must be sealed to prevent moisture. Acetyl chloride should be stored separately from oxidants and alcohols, and should not be mixed. It should not be stored for a long time to avoid deterioration. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Prohibit the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. Acetyl chloride storage areas should be equipped with emergency release equipment and appropriate containment materials.
4. Operational Safety Protection
Precautions for the operation of acetyl chloride: Airtight operation, provide sufficient local exhaust. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by operating procedures. It is recommended that the operator wear a filter gas mask (full face mask) or self-contained breathing apparatus, a tape gas suit, and rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Avoid generating fumes. Prevent the release of fumes and vapours into the workplace air. Avoid contact with oxidants and alcohols. Take particular care to avoid contact with water. When handling, it should be lightly loaded and unloaded to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with the corresponding variety and quantity of fire fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
